John Neal (BGS Staff 1993-)

John Neal M.Sc., Dp.Ed. was appointed headmaster of Boston Grammar School in January, 1993. He gained his
M.Sc. at Sussex University in 1974 and a Diploma of Education at Bristol in 1986. He was head of mathematics at
Crypt School, Gloucester then Deputy Headmaster at Wirral Grammar School, before coming to B.G.S.. He is a member of the Rotary Club.

The official re-opening of the school library, after refurbishment, took place on December 10th, 1996, immediately after the Beast Mart. The Chairman of the Governors, Jim Howes, unveiled the plaque in front of the Mayor and Mayoress, Coun. Albert Tebbs and Mrs. Margaret Tebbs and also Janet and Heather Bagley, widow and daughter of George Bagley, a copy of whose book 'Floreat Bostona' was displayed in an illuminated, glass-fronted case together with details of the Parry Gold Medal. The impressive library housed thousand of books, had study areas, computers and related electronics in an atmosphere conducive to study. John Neal loaned his copy of 'Floreat Bostona', which had been presented to him by the Old Bostonian Association, when he came to B.G.S.. It was possible, however, to return his copy, after Professor Doug Andrews from Ontario was kind enough to donate his copy for display in the cabinet.

After the Beast Mart on 10th December, 1997, the new Art and Music Suite was officially opened by Mrs. Brenda Medlock, whose husband Dr. Len Medlock, through the Len Medlock Trust, had donated £250,000 to the project. The Mayor and Mayoress, Fred and Carol Gilchrist were present and Bill Mortlock, Vice-Chairman of the Governors expressed the School's gratitude to the Medlock Trust.
