BGS Athletics in the 2000s

GS take fast track to cups

Boston Grammar School athletes won both the junior and senior boys team titles at the 2001 Holland District Athletics Championships last week. The BGS team also claimed second place in the intermediate boys' section.

After a distinctly damp start, the weather at King's Lynn's Dow Track cleared up to give favourable conditions for track and field performances.

(Junior Boys)

Boston Grammar School runners took the two middle-distance titles, Sims winning the 800m (2 mins 28.4 secs) and Molinari the 1500m (5 mins 18.6 secs). Another title went to BGS as Ryan won the shot (10.49m)...

...in the 4 x 100, relay the George Farmer quartet had over a second in hand over runners-up Boston Grammar School (51.7 secs).

(Intermediate Boys)

John McGarel romped the 1500m steeplechase - over reduced barriers - in 5mins 13.1 secs, and Boston Grammar School teammate Matthew Cope had a convincing 800m victory in 2mins 16.6secs.

(Senior Boys)

For Boston GS, Chris Cope achieved two clear victories in the 400m hurdles (60.0 secs) and 2000m steeplechase (7 mins 0.4secs), while David Pearson won the 1500m (5 mins 1.4 secs), Jason Pedley took the 800m title (2 mins 9.0 secs), and Alex Scotney just edged the 400m in 57.8 secs. McGrath won the 200m final with a time of 25.1 secs and, in turn, was pipped at the post by Boston College's D. Donohoe in the 100m final (12.4 secs).

...the 4 x 100m relay was a closely-contested race, five-tenths of a second separating the first three teams as Boston Grammar School (49.4 secs) just beat Boston College (49.5 secs), with College also recording 49.9 secs in third.
