Schools Celebrate Technology Status

(From The Old Bostonian - Issue 36 - Autumn 2002)

The second joint bid for technology status by Boston Grammar School and Haven High was successful. The schools are now in line to receive £722,000 over the next four years to enhance the teaching of IT, maths and science.

An initial bid was rejected, but the schools resubmitted their proposal and were rewarded when the successful schools were announced.

Madeleine Fox, head teacher of Haven High said "Technology status will help us to develop links with primary schools, businesses and the whole of the Boston Community."

"Everyone will benefit from this announcement and it will help provide a highly educated workforce for the town in the future."

John Neal, head teacher of Boston Grammar School enthused about the success of the partnership and the immense benefits it could bring to the town.

"We are still separate schools but now we can look at each other's resources and improve the general level of education that we are already providing."

"The extra funding that we have been given allows us now to make a couple of appointments and improve the equipment that the pupils currently have to work with."

Both head teachers reserved special praise for the sponsors of the bid who helped to raise the £50,000 necessary to have it considered.

This award raises the number of specialist schools in Lincolnshire to 19.
