The MC for this year's Annual Dinner was Reg Adcock. The toast list was
as follows:
- "THE QUEEN"
- by John Porcher, President
- "BOSTON GRAMMAR SCHOOL"
- "REPLY"
Peter Luff MA Cantab. (BGS 44-52)
On leaving BGS Peter did two years' National Service in the RAF reaching
commissioned rank. After Cambridge he joined Her Majesty's Overseas Service
in Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia). In 1965 he returned to the UK and,
until his retirement, worked in the Ministry of Defence.
Peter spoke of his time at BGS. He brought one of his school reports
to the dinner, and a copy of a declaration made by his father, promising
his continued attendance at the school. He also spoke of his time in Northern
Rhodesia.
Richard Cross
Richard, the grandson of R W Ryder Cross, who won the Parry Gold Medal
in 1901, presented his grandfather's medal to the President, who received
it on behalf of the Association. John then passed the medal to the Headmaster,
John Neal for safe-keeping in the school.
John Neal (Headmaster of BGS)
John gave a mainly light hearted view of the school today. One serious
point however, was the threat to the school's status as a grammar school.
He asked OBs to write to their MPs about their good experiences at BGS.
He clearly felt that the pro-grammar school lobby was not being heard.
