As in 1997, this year's "do" was a great success and a credit to the social committee and many others. A special thank you to Janet, the President's wife, who spent most of the evening supervising food.

The music was provided for the first hour by members of the BGS Jazz Band under Nick Fitton's vigorous direction, playing and singing. For the rest of the evening a jazz group of OBs took over. At times a competition seemed to develop between the decibels of the band and those of the chattering throng. All good stuff! Even "Scorcher" Porcher took his turn in entertaining, with a polished performance on the drum skins (picture)!

Horace Battram showed his skills as barman. The President was in all places at all times ensuring smooth running and making sure no one missed out. Stan Meeds and Paul Mould had a tearing time selling draw tickets. Peter Swift shot around with camera. The editor of The Old Bostonian manned a recruiting post and gained new members for the Assiciation.

What was most impressive about the evening was the lively and genuinely friendly atmosphere that pervaded the entire time. One can truly say that a good time was had by all - young, midway and older.

Thanks are due to the Headmaster, John Neal, who, incidentally, cut a nifty rug on the floor, dancing with his wife. He had allowed the use of the school hall and facilities although it was in term time and all evidence of the festivities had to be cleared that night to make good for the following morning's assembly.

A special thank you to the school caretaker, Lewis Massam, who as always on OBA occasions held at BGS, was unstinting in giving generously his efforts and time where and when needed. He had to stay on to the early hours, helping with the clearing and finally to lock up when all others had gone. Lewis lives in Bicker and must have a very understanding wife.

As with all else, there was financial success which made possible a donation of £100 to the school jazz band, who need some new instruments, and leaving a balance of over £200 profit to bolster OBA funds.
