Accountant's Loyal Service is Rewarded. Local accountant Tony Austin has completed 40 years' service with Dexter and Sharpe. Tony joined the firm as an articled clerk and now holds the position of senior manager. In recognition of his loyal service the partners presented him with a token of their appreciation.

Well-known Boston sportsman Jack Luffman has graduated from university. The 21-year-old former Boston Grammar School pupil received a BA (Hons) 2:1 degree at Trentham Gardens, Stoke in July. A long time stalwart of Boston Cricket Club's batting line-up and current first XI captain, Jack has spent most of his holiday time while at university working for the Boston Target. He said "Gaining experience in the real world of newspapers has certainly helped me achieve success in my university course." During his three years at Staffordshire, Jack has managed to find time to further his sporting career by captaining the university cricket team and making appearances for one of the football sides. He also won international honours as a member of the England Universities cricket squad in 2001 and 2002. Jack plans to go to Australia later in the year where he will spend six months playing cricket for Swan Hill CC in the state of Victoria. He said "I am looking forward to the chance to go down under after which I intend to pursue my media dream hopefully in radio or television."

Colin Hilton, 56, works as a cardiothoracic surgeon at Newcastle's Freeman Hospital and has been promoted to president of the Society of Cardiothoracic Surgeons of Great Britain. Colin originates from Donington and attended Boston Grammar School. He now lives in Newcastle with his wife Helen. Colin has previously worked as a consultant at Newcastle General Hospital and also in America at Providence, Rhode Island. However, he returned to a post in Newcastle at the Freeman Hospital which specialises in cardiothoracic surgery. The group of which he is president is a professional society for heart and lung surgery and negotiates with the Government over relevant issues. The society covers the UK and Ireland and has about 320 members. Two years ago Colin was elected the society's vice-president. The society helps to set national guidelines on heart surgery and it collates data on matters concerned with the profession.

Jamie Lee Newton, 22, a former Boston Grammar School student, has graduated from Stafford University with a 2.1 honours degree in business computing information technology. The course included a year out at Cambridge University's IT department. Jamie, whose home is in Freiston Road, Boston, was planning to work in California.

John Porcher is proud to announce the birth of his grandson, James Edward Porcher at 01:06 on Thursday 3 October 2002. The proud parents are John's son, Edward, and his wife Natalya. John joked that since the latest addition to the family has the same initials as him, he is destined to inherit his grandfather's personal registration plate "JEP 100"
