The Old Bostonian Association

Short Stories - The Old Bostonian (05/2002)

Jack Luffman - Boston cricketer Jack Luffman has been called up to the England Universities side for the forthcoming Home Nations Championships. The left-handed opening batsman who returned to play for Boston Cricket Club this season after a year with Super League side Market Rasen, has already featured in the England Universities team for matches against Durham Academy and Cheshire and his perfromances obviously impressed the selectors.

OBA/BGS Quiz Night 2001 - Once again hosted by Richard Anderson at Grves Park Social Club, Kirton, the evening was contested by six teams, two OBA, three BGS, and one BGS Masters. The final between OBA "A" and the BGS Masters was a closely fought match, but OBA "A" moved up a gear to win in style. OBA "A" consisted of Horrace Battram, Mark Stephens, Ian Blackamore and Paul Mould. BGS Masters were Nigel Wainwright, James Wilson, Heather Rotherham and Jo Cooper.

Minibus Appeal - The BGS Association has donated £1,000 to the school's minibus appeal.

Badminton - A BGS team won the Holland and District Schools Badminton Leaguewith a 100% record. The team was Adam Cock, Oliver Cullen, Nick Baxter and Anthony Schaffatcyzk. Oliver also won the singles title and teamed up with Anthony to claim the doubles crown.

School piano - Following an appeal the OBA fully funded the purchase of a very good second hand Yamaha piano, and also managed to pay for the instrument to be properly tuned. The previous grand piano had suffered terribly, not least from being lifted up and down from the stage by large groups of sixth formers on many occasions.
