Short Stories - The Old Bostonian (02/2000)

John Porcher Snooker Shield - An even match was contested on Sunday 6 February between teams representing the School and the Association. The School team consisted of both pupils and teachers. The final score was 12-12, and the match declared a draw. (From The Old Bostonian, February 2000 edition)

Quiz Night, - The annual quiz competition between the Old Bostonians and Boston Grammar School was held on the evening of 3 November 1999 at Graves Park Social Club. The quizmaster was Richard Anderson. A total of six teams competed: 3 of BGS pupils, 1 of BGS masters and 2 of OBA members. After 1 hour 30 minutes of open contest two teams were in the lead : one of the BGS pupils and one of the OBA and they played for 30 minutes in a buzzer round. The winners were the Old Bostonians, the team being Horace Battram, Matthew Stevens, Ian Blackamore, and Paul Mould who were presented with the John Porcher Cup. Patrick Huston has taken up motor racing in his retirement. The 54 year old former biology teacher at BGS races his Van Diemen RF84 on the continent in the Monoposta Championships. At the end of last season he won a prize awarded by the racing publication "Circuit News". This gave him and his wife a trip to Europe driving on famous such racing tracks as Hockenheim and Monza. David Wright has retired from his post as head of music at BGS. He held this position for 42 years. David's replacement is Dr. Wendy Taylor. (From The Old Bostonian, February 2000 edition)
