Mark Parkinson (BGS 1937-1943)

Mark Parkinson, brother-in-law to the late BGS art master “Banger” Grimble, served for several years in the Merchant Marine before entering the food industry. He lived at Blairgowrie in Scotland from where he moved to Canada in 1966. In 1970 Mark began stone carving as a hobby. He and his son Ross have been successful in selling carvings world-wide.

During her silver jubilee visit to Canada in 1977, the Queen accepted a carving by Mark depicting five Inuit at play, which he calls “Fun”.

In 1983 Prime Minister Pierre Elliot Trudeau presented one of Ross' sculptures, a large bear, to Princess Diana. A large plaque of a bear, also carved by Ross, was presented to Prince Charles on the same occasion.

Mark and Ross call themselves the Parkinson Family and with Mark’s wife Betty often helping out, it really is a family business.

Mark is a member of the OBA and now lives in Phillipsburg, Quebec, Canada, a small town near the US border.
